Feature
Install Advicity on your phone
Put Advicity on your phone's home screen. It opens in one tap, in its own window, on the same account.
What it is
Advicity can live on your phone's home screen like any other app. Once it is there, your board opens in one tap, in its own window, with no browser address bar. It is the same Advicity, on the same account, with the same board.
Installing is optional. Advicity works the same in your browser, and installing it changes nothing about your board.
Why it matters
Decisions do not wait until you are at a desk. The fewer steps between a decision and your board, the more often your board hears about it, and the more it has to work with. One tap from your home screen is the shortest path there is.
It also keeps your board where you can see it. An app on your home screen is a reminder that the board is there to be used.
How it works
- On your phone, open getadvicity.com/install.
- On an iPhone or iPad, tap the Share button at the bottom of Safari, then choose Add to Home Screen.
- On most Android phones, tap "Add Advicity to my home screen" on the install page and confirm.
- If your browser has not offered to install Advicity, look for Install or Add to Home Screen in the browser's own menu.
- Open Advicity from its icon. It opens in its own window, on the same account.
A worked example
Elena uses Advicity on her laptop at work, but her biggest decisions come up on the train home. She opens Advicity in Safari on her iPhone, taps Share, then Add to Home Screen. The next evening, a question about turning down a speaking invitation comes up on the train. She taps the Advicity icon, and her board opens in its own window, and she logs in once with the account she uses at work.
Which plans include it
Installing Advicity is included on the Paper plan, the Ink plan and the Brass plan at no extra cost. Plans are paid through Stripe, the same way in your browser and in the installed app.
Privacy and what the board keeps
The installed app stores only three public files: the offline page, the Advicity icon and the brass mark the offline page shows. The one thing from your board that can sit on your phone is short-lived: if Advicity can't accept an advisor you are building, what you typed is kept in a cookie for up to 10 minutes so that you do not have to type it again. Your North Star, your advisors and your answers stay on your board and are fetched only when you are online. The install page does not ask for notification permission.
Questions
- Do I need to download something from the App Store or Google Play?
No. You add Advicity to your home screen from your browser.
- Is the installed app a different account?
No. It is the same Advicity, on the same account, with the same board.
- Can I read my board offline?
No. Your board is not stored on your phone, so Advicity needs a connection to reach it.
- Will Advicity send me notifications?
Not from the web app you install from your browser, and the install page does not ask for notification permission. The Advicity iPhone app can: if you allow notifications there, your check-ins come to your iPhone instead of by email. Otherwise your board asks how a decision went by email, or only in Advicity if you choose that in Settings.
