Download everything, import it, and delete your account

Download everything on your board at any time, load it back onto an empty board, or delete your account yourself. All three are in Settings.

What it is

Three things you can do yourself, at any time, from the "Your data" part of Settings. You can download everything on your board as one file. You can load that file back onto an empty board. And you can delete your account. None of them needs an email to us or a reason.

Why it matters

A board is only worth building if it stays yours. Your board holds your North Star, your questions and answers, your decisions and how they worked out, and what your advisors learned from what you shared. You can take all of it with you whenever you want, not only on the way out, and bring it back if you return. If you want to leave for good, you can close your account in one step instead of asking for it.

How it works

  1. Open Settings and find "Your data". It is there on every plan.
  2. Choose "Download all your data". Your browser saves one file holding everything on your own boards, including your board meetings, your follow-ups, your Chair's notes, each time you moved a check-in date, and anything your plan has set aside, and the names of the Board Rooms you are in, with your role in each.
  3. To load a file back, choose "Import onto my board", choose the file under "Import a downloaded file" and choose "Import onto my board". This works only on a board with nothing on it yet, such as a new account, and only with a file that holds one board.
  4. Advicity checks that the file is one it made and that it was not changed after you downloaded it. If it was changed, nothing is imported.
  5. Anything in the file your plan does not include is kept on your board, set aside, until you move to a plan that does. Importing never changes your plan.
  6. To delete your account, choose "Delete your account", type DELETE in the box and choose "Delete my account". Your subscription is cancelled first, then your account and your boards are deleted at once.
  7. A Board Room you own goes to its longest-standing member, or is deleted if no other member is in it.

A worked example

Sam has used Advicity on the Ink plan for a year and is taking a break. In Settings, he downloads all his data, then deletes his account. His subscription is cancelled and his board is gone. Eight months later he signs up again. His new board is empty, so he imports the file he saved. His North Star, his questions, his decisions and how they worked out are back. His new account is on the Paper plan, so everything beyond the Paper plan's reach is set aside until he moves up.

Which plans include it

Every plan: the Paper plan, the Ink plan and the Brass plan. A Board Room's own content is not in your file; the file names the rooms you are in and your role in each.

Privacy and what the board keeps

The file holds what is on your board, so keep it somewhere safe. Deleting your account cannot be undone, so download your data first. What we keep after a deletion, and why, is set out in section 8 of our privacy policy, including the billing record tax law requires and what you wrote in a Board Room that other members are still in. A copy of your board in our backups is gone within 30 days.

Questions

Can I download my data without leaving?

Yes. Download it whenever you want. Nothing changes on your board when you do.

Can I import onto a board I already use?

No. A file loads only onto an empty board, such as a new account. That way nothing on a board you use is ever overwritten.

Does deleting my account cancel my plan?

Yes. Your subscription is cancelled first, and the account is deleted only once that is done. No refund is given for the rest of the period you paid for.

Can I undo a deletion?

No. If you saved your file first, you can sign up again and import it onto your new board.
